Matt O’Riley has spoken about the difficult role Hyeongyu Oh has had under Brendan Rodgers after he produced a night to remember in Celtic colours.

Celtic cruised to a 4-1 win over in-form Hibernian at Parkhead to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premiership season.

After the mixed performance against St Johnstone over the weekend, Brendan Rodgers didn’t pull any punches and he made several changes to the team.

That included starting Hyeongyu Oh up top on his own and he rewarded his manager by bagging a brace for Celtic.

Matt O’Riley handed the South Korean star the Man of the Match award – via Celtic’s YouTube Channel – after the game and admitted it’s ‘not easy’ for him because he is usually ‘only getting 15-20 minutes’ here and there.

That’s absolutely correct, that’s why there should be more patience and sympathy towards Hyeongyu Oh – especially with talk of another striker coming in during the January transfer window.

Matt O’Riley praises Hyeongyu Oh

“It shows the squad depth,” said O’Riley about Oh’s brace. “He has had to wait for his chance, at times, and it’s not easy when you are only getting 15-20 minutes to get a goal.

“I think he deserves it. He works really hard every day, so I am very happy for him.”

Will Hyeongyu Oh now keep his place in Celtic’s starting XI?

If you were him, then you would be bitterly disappointed if Rodgers knocked on your door and told you that you are back on the bench for Kilmarnock.

The 22-year-old deserves to keep his place, even if Kyogo Furuhashi is brought back into the set-up.

From Tomoki Iwata to Mikey Johnston,  there are now certain squad players who need to be handed a run of starts.
