Wilfried Nancy has to start winning at Celtic as soon as possible.
Everything Nancy does on the touchline is being scrutinised, and there is so much you can defend from a supporter’s perspective.
The nonsense around Nancy using a tactics board or wearing green trainers was rightfully shut down, but some of his talks with the players on the touchline don’t make great viewing.
That was proven when Kieran Tierney was subbed off after 71 minutes during Celtic’s defeat to St Mirren on Sunday at Hampden.

Is this the end for Wilfried Nancy?

Wilfried Nancy and Kieran Tierney confusion during Celtic’s defeat to St Mirren
When Nancy was making his first set of subs in the second half, everyone thought Tierney was coming off, and he was walking towards the dugout.
But Nancy seemed to have other ideas because it looked like he was telling the fourth official the opposite, and he did initially stop Tierney from going off.
At the end of it all, the Scotland star went off, and Michael Stewart stated on Premier Sports (14/12/25) that it ‘doesn’t look great.’
Stewart added that Tierney had the thought of, ‘I have run my race’, and he could no longer continue, even though he was ‘very good’, mainly in the first half.
“That doesn’t look great,” said Stewart. “It looks like Kieran Tierney is saying, ‘I have run my race’, which is almost disappointing to see. It looks like he is feeling it a little bit.
“It doesn’t look great when you are seeing Kieran Tierney having to come off there. Very good in that first half. Very good.
“But definitely in the second half, he tailed off.”
Is this the worst Celtic have been in ‘over 30 years’?
Breakdown of Tierney’s starts and minutes since returning to Celtic
You just wonder how much Nancy knows about Tierney’s past injury issues, and how he is slowly building himself up after a lengthy period without playing regularly.
That has been proven by how Tierney has been used this season, including being subbed off nearly every time he starts.
- Games: 24
- Starts: 18
- Subbed off: 13
- Games completed: 6
- Total minutes: 1,621
