Peter Grant has named the Celtic player he would drop from the starting XI for this weekend’s clash against St Mirren.

The Hoops are in action for the final time before the Scottish Premiership split takes place and Martin O’Neill’s side lock in to fight for the title.

With Colby Donovan also on the sidelines, the Celtic manager will hope that nobody else is injured and Grant thinks they can avoid that by resting Kieran Tierney.

Peter Grant wants Kieran Tierney to be rested vs St Mirren

Tierney has been one of Celtic’s best players this season and looked back to his best since the turn of the year.

His passion and experience have been vital during a difficult campaign, but Grant thinks that Marcelo Saracchi should be given the nod instead.

“I’m a big Kieran Tierney fan, but I would play Sarracchi,” he told Go Radio. “He sparks the team at this moment in time.

“He plays with that energy; he lifts the support. He puts crosses in the box; whether they’re good, bad, or indifferent, it puts the opposition under pressure.”

Marcelo Saracchi is playing for his Celtic future

Saracchi’s future could be in doubt if Andy Robertson joins Celtic this summer, but any move could be put on hold if the Uruguay international continues to impress.

Grant is right, the 27-year-old does bring something different to the side.

There is no denying that Tierney is the better player defensively, but Saracchi is capable of providing a lot in the attacking third.

His cross for Kelechi Iheanacho’s winner against Dundee proved that. Luckily, Celtic are in a position where neither one of Tierney or Saracchi weaken the side when they’re included and giving the former a chance to recover a little bit more could help in the long run.
