Three things we learned from Celtic’s trophy day draw with St Mirren

Celtic ended their 2024/25 Scottish Premiership season with a 1-1 draw at home to St Mirren.

It appeared the Hoops’ party celebrations were going to be spoiled by the Buddies, who opened the scoring after 54 minutes through Jonah Ayunga.

The Bhoys were dominant though and the pressure eventually told. And who else to score the dramatic equaliser than the one and only James Forrest?

The winger was brought on by Brendan Rodgers to deliver some magic and he did just that with one minute of stoppage time to play.

After full-time, Celtic then were awarded with the Premiership trophy with captain Callum McGregor and Forrest jointly lifting the cup inside a sun-soaked Paradise.

Here’s three things 67 Hail Hail learned from the game.

Brendan Rodgers effectively fields his Scottish Cup starting XI

Celtic fans were less than impressed with Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI for the St Mirren clash as the boss benched James Forrest and Maik Nawrocki while leaving Sean McArdle out altogether.

There were nine changes overall from the 5-1 win over Aberdeen and we’d be pretty surprised if this wasn’t the line-up for next weekend’s Scottish Cup final at Hampden – bar one change.

Nicolas Kuhn, Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah were taken off at half-time for failing to make an impact, but it’s unlikely the latter two will be benched for the final.

Kuhn now appears likely to miss out on the final because of one man – James Forrest.

Perfectly written script as James Forrest finally scores

The winger from Prestwick was electric against Aberdeen on Wednesday and looked as sharp as he’d ever been, but he failed to find the net.

He had just two more games before today’s clash with St Mirren to get on the scoresheet and he duly delivered, albeit in the 94th minute of action.

Forrest hit a sweetly struck first time effort into the near corner of Zach Hemming’s net and it’s safe to say that Parkhead erupted with joy and relief.

Celtic’s most decorated player ever has now scored in 16 consecutive seasons for the club, an absolutely remarkable achievement.

Final league game brings second gear Celtic

Last season’s trophy day clash with St Mirren was, at least for neutrals, an extremely entertaining game.

The Hoops went behind twice on the day to Stephen Robinson’s men, but ultimately came out the other side winning the game 3-2.

Today? Well it was the exact opposite. Celtic were certainly dominant and went into the interval with 69 percent possession.

That continued in the second-half, although St Mirren took the lead to completely stun Celtic Park.

It was very much a second gear performance, but you’ve also got to give credit to the Buddies for their defensive organisation and will to see out the game.

Forrest’s dramatic equaliser gave Celtic a point and it means the Hoops finish the Premiership season with 92 points.
