Vaclav Cerny deludes himself ahead of Celtic’s clash against Rangers with nonsense claim

Brendan Rodgers heads into the latest Glasgow derby as relaxed as ever.

Celtic are cruising in the Premiership, they hold a 14-point lead over Rangers and have dropped points on only two occasions this term.

From Ange Postecoglou to Rodgers’ second stint as manager, there is one common theme and that’s Celtic beating Rangers again and again.

That was proven at Parkhead at the start of the season when the champions eased to three points and then Celtic beat Rangers in the League Cup final last month.

Vaclav Cerny played that game and you presume, if anyone is going to be confident or talk with such belief, then it would come from the Celtic camp.

But Cerny, somehow from somewhere, is the one talking like Rangers are the dominant force in Scotland.

Vaclav Cerny claims it’s ‘logical’ to think that Rangers can beat Celtic

Yes, you heard that right, Cerny thinks it’s ‘logical’ to suggest that Rangers could beat Celtic at Ibrox.

The winger noted the League Cup final – which Rangers lost, by the way – and how that’s proof that his team can win the league game, as he told his pre-match press conference.

You have to question if he realises Rangers’ dross record against Celtic? Just look at 2024 and the Bhoys won two cup finals against the Gers.

Perhaps Cerny needs to realise that if Celtic are victorious again, then his manager is out of the door!

“We know what the situation is in every aspect, but we are the ones who are responsible for that,” said Cerny.

“Now, the mindset has to be not dropping points anymore and try not to drop the points anymore and just see what’s going happen.

On where he gets the belief from that Rangers can beat Celtic: “We all saw the last game, the cup final. I think we were good at the game. Been unlucky, so I think it’s logical that we feel that we can win this game. We want to win every game and so it (belief) comes from this one as well.”

Celtic and Rangers previous ten meetings

Cerny only joined Rangers this season, so perhaps he missed the constant defeats his new team have found themselves on the end of in recent times.

Perhaps Cerny is reading Greame Souness’ book on the gap between Celtic and Rangers because he sounds as deluded as him.

Either way, in their last ten meetings in all competitions, Rangers have only won once and that was a dead-rubber game in 2023.
