Vasilis Barkas could be forgiven if he said that the name Celtic FC made him wake up in the middle of the night.

The goalkeeper endured a torrid time at Celtic Park after signing in a high-profile £4.5m deal from AEK Athens.

Mistake after mistake saw him lose his big chance and he eventually had his contract terminated early.

Barkas returns with FC Utrecht for the final game of the league phase of the Europa League.

It will be different with 60,000 fans inside Celtic Park, but there are no demons to bury for the 31-year-old.

Vasilis Barkas looking forward to playing at Celtic again

One of the things that hindered Barkas’ career was playing in front of an empty stadium due to the Covid pandemic.

He may have not had the chance to play in front of a large crowd, but he has joined in with the likes of Ferenc Puskas in praising the Parkhead atmosphere.

He told the Daily Record: “I never came together with my teammates, and to be honest, I never met the country 100 per cent.

Celtic writer Paddy Sinat's prediction for Europa League tie vs Utrecht

“I’m here to help my team. I don’t care about what the others think about me, you know? So yeah, I’m here to help my team.

“When I played for Celtic, it was COVID, it was an empty stadium. But I played once again with a Greek club, so yeah, there is an amazing atmosphere, it’s 60,000, right? Yeah, and the atmosphere is really nice, so it will be nice to play for everyone. I think it’s quite unique, the atmosphere.”
