Wilfried Nancy has explained why Kasper Schmeichel was absent from his squad for Celtic’s game against Livingston.

In the biggest twist so far, Schmeichel wasn’t even among the substitutes, with Viljami Sinisalo starting the game between the sticks.

Ross Doohan was named as the replacement option on the bench and the decision comes after Chris Sutton admitted to having concerns over Schmeichel.

The 39-year-old has been virtually ever-present but received criticism from Celtic fans for his performances.

But did that play a role in why he was nowhere to be seen.

He told Celtic TV: “He got an injection on Monday and did not recover in time. He will be back for the next game.”

The Frenchman also admitted that it was welcome relief to get in some extra training sessions.

In his opening few weeks as Celtic manager, the 48-year-old has had to deal with a game every three or four days.

But, after seven days between their win against Aberdeen and the trip to Livingston, things look a lot brighter.
