As Celtic fans wait for the 12th day for the club to bring in a striker, the failed bid to bring Kyogo Furuhashi to the club is still reverberating.
Reports suggested that Kyogo’s Celtic return was imminent as the Birmingham City striker’s woes in the English Championship continued.
The Japanese striker, prior to the weekend, had scored just one goal for Birmingham since his 2025 summer transfer move, but as Celtic’s bid failed, fans are now left watching and waiting as the forward search continues.
67 Hail Hail made an appearance on BBC Sportsound to discuss Celtic’s win over Dundee United, and we were asked about the club not adding a striker ten days into the window.

Celtic trying to replace Kyogo with Kyogo is ‘quite remarkable’
Celtic fans will be well aware that it’s almost a year to the day when Kyogo left for Rennes.
And when asked about the failure to add a striker so far, I told BBC Sportsound that Celtic’s transfer policy is just not good enough.
We told BBC Sportsound, “It’s incredible, Kenny. I mean, I heard you guys discussing it earlier. I think it was Tom that was saying that going back for Kyogo just shows how they lack forward planning at the club.
“And that seems to be what it shows to us. I mean, we’re almost a year on to when Kyogo left Celtic to join Rennes. And since then we got rid of Adam Idah, we brought in Shin Yamada and Johnny Kenny back from loan.
“And let’s be honest, neither of the two guys there, for all the will in the world, are going to be a Celtic first-choice striker. They’re good backup options, possibly Kenny, but for Yamada, I’m not so sure about him.
“But to be 12 months on and still not have a first-team ready striker in the building is quite remarkable to me.”
67 Hail Hail agrees with Tom English’s verdict on Celtic’s transfer ‘strategy’
But the criticism did not stop there as panellist and BBC’s chief sportswriter Tom English also slated Celtic’s signing policy and said that trying to get Kyogo back shows lack of planning and transfer ‘strategy’ by the club.
I replied, “Yeah, I mean, I couldn’t agree more, Tom. To me, it looks like a club that’s out of ideas.
“I mean, we’ve gone back to the well so often. We went back for Brendan Rodgers, then we went back for Martin O’Neill.
“And on the playing side we went back for Kieran Tierney, Jota, and now Kyogo. It smacks to me as if the club has run out of ideas on how to recruit not just manager, but players.
“We’re now 10 days into the window, we’ve signed Araujo, and that’s the only player we’ve got so far.
“We’re desperately crying out for reinforcements. Thank God that Martin came back, that’s all I can say.”
You can listen to my full damning verdict below.
With Celtic 12 days into the January transfer window already, and with a defender and not a striker being added to the squad, fans will be rightly asking what is going on.
Martin O’Neill has already been vocal about Celtic’s need for reinforcements with a message that is all too familiar to the supporters, Ange Postecoglou, Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon.
