Celtic have only tasted two defeats in all competitions this season.
Given that it’s the New Year and the knockout stages of the Champions League are around the corner, then that is pretty good going.
Yes, Celtic’s horror show at Ibrox was beyond abject, but the League Cup was still delivered and it’s a case of by how many points will the title be won.
But as things run smoothly for Brendan Rodgers on the domestic scene, sooner or rather than later, matters will turn to Europe.
Celtic have a great chance of making the play-offs, destiny is in their hands, with two matches remaining for the champions of Scotland.
Ally McCoist looking forward to ‘belter’ Champions League clash between Celtic and Aston Villa
Before Celtic travel to Villa Park on January 29, they host bottom-of-the-table Young Boys on January 22 knowing three points might be enough to reach knockout football.
The Bhoys are sitting 19th in the table, above Manchester City and PSG – who play each other – two points above the drop zone and four points outside of the top eight.
But it’s the game against Aston Villa that has got Ally McCoist purring because he described it as a ‘belter’, as he told talkSPORT (08/01/25 at 6:15 am).
“Celtic against Villa, ooof,” said Alan Brazil. McCoist responded: “I know. I know. Some great games there. Celtic and Villa is a belter. What do you think?”
Brazil added: “It’s worrying me. Celtic, I don’t know, look like they are lacking pace for me, especially in the midfield. McGregor isn’t imposing himself. Maybe he has a niggle or an injury.”

Will John McGinn be fit for Aston Villa to face Celtic?
Boyhood Celtic fan John McGinn understandably stole the headlines when the draw was made, but the Aston Villa captain is fighting a race to be fit for this fixture.
McGinn picked up an injury during Villa’s win against Leicester City over the weekend and he has an issue with his hamstring.
At first, it looked like he was going to be sidelined for a while, but Unai Emery wasn’t giving too much away ahead of Villa’s FA Cup clash against West Ham United on Friday night.
McGinn will certainly miss out on that, but it would provide great drama if he is fit for the Celtic match and coming up against Callum McGregor.
