Read MoreAaron Mooy on why he can't contain his smile in front of Celtic fans during matches
After another impressive display in a Celtic shirt, Aaron Mooy has been discussing all the attention he’s getting from supporters.
Mooy now has his own song in the stands and fans love singing it home and away. It’s also become a big hit with the players themselves, as revealed by his teammates.
The Australian doesn’t naturally seek the spotlight, but it has undoubtedly found him over the last six weeks following his return from the World Cup in Qatar. And he says he can’t help but smile when he hears the supporters come out with “Aaron, Aaron Mooy”.
As quoted by The Herald, he said: “I don’t like attention much, but it’s a great feeling. I try and hold back my smile, but I can’t when they sing it. I’m enjoying it and the fans enjoy singing it.
“This is a big club, you’re playing for a big club. The fans are amazing. Home and away, even around the city, back home. It’s a bit hard to explain. It’s something you have to experience yourself. I’m enjoying it.
“I’m happy to get a few goals. When you get chances in this team then you have to take them as there are so many good players and I am happy to get another goal.”
Mooy’s consistent scoring prowess may not last forever, but these are incredible weeks for the midfielder at Celtic and surely a best-case scenario of his free transfer signing last summer.
I doubt many people expected him to have such an impact on our performances but Ange Postecoglou has always maintained that we would see the best of him in the second half of the season.
That’s now transpiring and it doesn’t appear the Soccerroo will be left out of the manager’s starting eleven anytime soon. The love affair between Mooy and the Celtic fans is set to continue – whether he likes the attention or not!
