Many Celtic fans would agree that the team has been nowhere near their best since Brendan Rodgers returned in the summer.
From back-to-back defeats to tame 1-0 wins, forget about the results, it’s the performances that have been a big issue.
Yet, despite all of that, Celtic are the ones sitting top of the table, and if Rangers win their game in hand, then the gap will be just two points at the top of the table.
Ally McCoist was trying to dig at the Bhoys and how ‘you won it (the title) when you beat us at Celtic Park in the last game’, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (31/01/24 at 6:10 am).
But Celtic-mad Alan Brazil was quick to shut the former Scotland striker down by telling him that previously he was ‘very quiet’ and ‘all of a sudden you are perking up again’.
The key thing that also needs to be noted, regardless of how the duo have played this season, the bragging rights in the Glasgow derby have once again belonged to one team and one team only this season.
You imagine if Brendan Rodgers can guide the team to another victory at Ibrox, then it would put the team firmly in control for the rest of the season.
Celtic and Rangers title race
“I don’t know what you guys are panicking about,” said McCoist. “You won it when you beat us at Celtic Park in the last game.”
“Oh, hello,” responded Brazil. “You were very quiet after that. Now, all of a sudden, you are perking up again.”
“No, I am not,” added McCoist. “ You are not panicking now, surely, are you? You won it.”
Brazil then admitted: “I said it for ages, this is a lot closer than people are making out.”

January transfer boost
Nicolas Kuhn has been the only arrival this month, with fans hoping a few more faces can come in before the window slams shut on Thursday.
Norwich City striker Adam Idah has been spoken about, with Chris Sutton sharing his thoughts on the player.
Whether the Republic of Ireland star is good enough remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, he ticks the box when it comes to the striker Celtic wants.
All in all, the transfer business the club conclude, from now until Thursday’s cut-off point, could prove to be crucial in what happens in the title race.
