The difference between Celtic and Rangers in terms of finances has been huge for the last 13 years.
Celtic are reaping millions of pounds in sponsorship, marketing and Adidas kit deals whilst the Parkhead club’s player-trading model continues to pay dividends in the transfer market.
Compare that to Rangers, who have made millions of pounds in losses since 2012 and have had to rely on a takeover from the 49ers Enterprises to help get near Celtic, the difference between the two clubs could not be more stark.
However, with the 49ers now helping Rangers to try and topple Celtic, Alan Brazil still has doubts about whether or not the Ibrox club has the ‘financial clout’ to catch the Hoops as Dean Saunders makes an excuse about the Ibrox club still recovering from being ‘bankrupt’ as an excuse for their failures on the park.

Alan Brazil doubts Rangers’ ‘financial clout’ to catch Celtic
After Russell Martin was appointed Rangers boss, the shift of focus then moved onto whether or not Rangers can catch Celtic with the new manager in place.
And speaking about the release of the SPFL fixtures as Celtic prepare to defend the title, Brazil doubted whether or not Rangers actually have the money to make big transfer signings.
Brazil told talkSPORT, “I just wonder if Rangers have got the financial clout now to bring in a couple of, not star names, but a couple of new faces.”
Saunders: “Didn’t they have £20 million injected? Was that to just to clear their bills?”
Brazil: “The difference between Celtic and Rangers is that Celtic are very, very comfortable financially. Rangers are not. They haven’t been for years and years.”
Saunders: “Well they are still recovering from being bankrupt when Ally was manager a few leagues down, wasn’t he for a bit. But hopefully these people have got Rangers at heart, and they’re not using it as a toy.”
Celtic fans know the reason why Rangers went bankrupt but to say that they are ‘recovering’ from being bankrupt is just nonsense.
Rangers have had 13 years to get their house in order to put up a fight against Celtic and try and build a model like the Parkhead board have done. They failed and that’s why a takeover had to happen.
Why Alan Brazil wants a ‘strong Rangers’ to compete with Celtic
Celtic fans are enjoying a huge spell of dominance over Scottish football and Rangers but Brazil wants Rangers to do better and here the talkSPORT host explains why.
Brazil continued, “It’s a funny one Deano, because, I might be a minority, but I want a strong Rangers. I do. Obviously I want Celtic to win it, but I want a strong Rangers to make it really exciting.
“But as a lot of Celtic fans are like, ‘No, keep them down, get them relegated!'”
Brazil is correct, there are plenty of Celtic fans who do not want Rangers to compete. They want the status quo to continue and that’s perfectly fine.
However, would a strong Rangers help Celtic in other ways? In Europe, perhaps? Competition domestically would help performances on the continent, right?
Well, if last season’s Champions League campaign was anything to go by you would have to say no, right?
