Ange Postecoglou will go down as one of the finest Celtic managers in recent history, but not everyone was convinced of his credentials after he was appointed back in 2021.

Following an unfateful 2020/21 campaign that supporters would rather forget, the Australian was tasked with transferring his winning formula at Yokohama F. Marinos onto the slopes of Celtic Park.

Famously, Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist poked fun at Celtic appointing Postecoglou in a widely circulated video clip, showing he wasn’t overly keen on the hire at the time.

History has a funny way of turning perceptions, and with the now-Tottenham Hotspur boss delivering five trophies in two years at the reigning Scottish Premiership champions, there is reason to suggest Alan Brazil probably feels different about Postecoglou in the present day.

Recently, he has looked back on his comments over three years down the line, and it is fair to say he has changed his tune when discussing the 59-year-old.

Speaking on Open Goal, Brazil rightfully pointed out the ‘fantastic’ job Postecoglou did while at Celtic and detailed that he did indeed play against the Aussie during his playing days for Wollongong against South Melbourne.

He explained: “I’d never heard of him, and I played against him! I played against him for Wollongong against South Melbourne.

“Someone sent me a programme, and I looked; I played against him! I had never heard of him; I didn’t know what he had done. He came over, and it’s a joke now, isn’t it (the clip)?

“But he’s done brilliant; he’s had a hard time at Spurs, but so what? It’s not easy at Spurs or Manchester United, but he was fantastic for Celtic.”

Celtic have continued Ange success under Brendan Rodgers

Although harking back to the past can be pleasant, it is worth celebrating Brendan Rodgers’ impact after prolonging the feel-good factor felt when Postecoglou departed for Tottenham last summer.

Claiming a domestic double last term, his side have started his second campaign back in charge in accomplished fashion, finding themselves top of the Scottish Premiership table alongside flying the flag admirably in the Champions League with four points in the league phase matches.

The Bhoys’ Premier Sports Cup semi-final offers a chance for the Irishman to reach his first cup final of the campaign, so there is plenty be delighted about regarding the trajectory the Bhoys are currently on.
