Alan Hutton’s odd claim about Celtic and Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon

Celtic have been synonymous with great goalkeepers over the years, and Craig Gordon was one of them.

The Bhoys have had the likes of Artur Boruc, Fraser Forster, Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichel as the last line of Celtic’s defence as the Hoops have dominated Scottish football over the last 25 years.

Right now, Schmeichel’s Celtic form has taken a bit of a dip, but in Viljami Sinisalo, Martin O’Neill has a credible back-up option for the big Dane.

Should Celtic prioritise replacing Kasper Schmeichel in the transfer window?

However, after watching Craig Gordon’s wonder save for Hearts in their win over Dundee, Alan Hutton has made an odd Celtic claim about the Tynecastle stopper.

Alan Hutton ‘honestly’ thinks Celtic would ‘like to have’ Craig Gordon

Gordon left Celtic in the summer of 2020 after the club failed to agree a new contract and he played second fiddle to Forster.

But even so, Hutton claims Celtic would still have Gordon in their side after he watched his performance in the Dundee win at the weekend.

Hutton told the Scottish Football Social Club, “He shows his professionalism like he always has done to be ready for moments like this and then he makes that outstanding save.

“And see when I saw it I was like that’s one of the best saves I’ve ever seen. But part of me wasn’t surprised, even at his age.

“I’ve seen it throughout the years. I’ve played alongside him with Scotland and things and you see him making these kind of saves. But well, it’s definitely in his top five I would imagine.

“Celtic would probably still like to have him if I’m totally honest. I mean, you think when he left there and everything goes along with that.

“But I just feel like that’s going to be one of those games, see like when you look back at it if they were to win the league. It’s moments like that when they’ve dug in and got three points.”

Why Hutton’s bizarre claim makes no Celtic sense

Look, Gordon is a good goalkeeper, he proved that over his time at Celtic back in the day.

However, when Celtic upgraded by bringing in Fraser Forster, Gordon was nowhere to be seen.

If Schmeichel and Gordon were at their best right now, the Celtic star is a far better goalkeeper now than the Hearts man.

That might be a cold hard truth for the Hearts supporters to accept but there is a reason Gordon is struggling to get into the Hearts team this season.

And it’s not because he’s the best goalkeeper in the league like some are claiming right now.
