It’s the Alan Stubbs derby on Sunday when Celtic host Hibernian in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.
Celtic are on course for the Treble, but they face a tricky all-Premiership clash against David Gray’s rejuvanted and in-form side.
Brendan Rodgers’ men were beaten at Easter Road last time out and he will be eager to put things right in front of an expectant Celtic Park crowd.
Since that match, things have got better for Hibernian because they are now 15 games unbeaten in all competitions, including winning the Edinburgh Derby.
The last time Hibs won the Scottish Cup was in 2015-16 when Stubbs was in the dugout, as the former centre-back also represented Celtic for a five-year period.
Stubbs was asked which current Premiership star he would have loved to have played alongside ahead of the Celtic vs Hibs game and he had a pretty quick response.

Alan Stubbs lauds Cameron Carter-Vickers as ‘the best’ in Scotland
Cameron Carter-Vickers has been the best defender in Scotland for several years now, so it’s no surprise that Stubbs picked the American as the man he would have loved to have played alongside.
The only issue with the 27-year-old is his injury record and how he can’t seem to play a whole campaign without visiting the treatment room a few times.
Either way, Stubbs dubbed Carter-Vickers as ‘the best’ and explained on the Warm-Up why they would work well together.
“Probably Carter-Vickers because he is the best, currently,” said Stubbs. “He would be able to compensate for my lack of pace, so he would be a nice balance between the two.”
Carter-Vickers’ record as a Celtic player
Celtic are blessed to have Carter-Vickers at the peak of his powers and you sense he can still go to another level if those injuries stay away.
A player signed under Ange Postecoglou, who won the Treble, and is now on course to do the same under Rodgers.
- 3x Scottish Champion
- 2x Scottish Cup winner
- 3x Scottish League Cup winner
Last season, it was Scales starting alongside Carter-Vickers, but now Auston Trusty has taken that role after signing in the summer.
