The international break always feels like a long time, especially off the back of a win.

Celtic beat Motherwell 3-2 in the final game before the pause in domestic action as 10 Hoops stars went on international duty.

One of the seven to miss out on a call-up was Alistair Johnston, who is still recovering from his injury suffered in August.

Johnston is hoping to return soon for an action-packed schedule that is full of mouthwatering games.

Out of all of them, there is one that stands out to the right-back more than others.

Alistair Johnston excited for top of the table clash

As well as the Europa League fixtures and a Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Rangers, there is the small matter of a top of the table clash to contend with too.

Hearts have shown that they are here to stay at the top of the table, with investor Tony Bloom hoping to topple Celtic and become the first non-Glasgow side to win the Scottish Premiership since Aberdeen in 1985.

The game at Tynecastle is bound to be a big one, and Johnston can’t wait.

He told Celtic TV: “This block between the October window and November window is packed with massive matches.

“Not only European but domestically. In the league, a big one at Tynecastle, that’ll be a good atmosphere there, they’ll be pretty rowdy, which will be a good one.”

Alistair Johnston record vs Hearts

It is no surprise to hear that the 27-year-old is excited about the game in Edinburgh in a few weeks’ time.

Johnston has played against Hearts eight times, and has only tasted defeat twice.

The other six encounters have all been wins, with the most recent being a 3-0 win at Parkhead last season.

He is yet to score in any of the meetings, but has grabbed an assist.
