Celtic can now look forward to the Champions League playoff draw even after losing to Aston Villa.

Celtic lost 4-2 at Villa Park after battling back from 2-0 down as the Premier League club laid down an early marker in the opening minutes of the final Champions League group stage game.

Morgan Rogers hit two goals in the first five minutes as Villa threatened to make it a long night for Celtic. However, Hoops ace Adam Idah rattled the EPL club to put both teams level at halftime.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as Aston Villa ran out 4-2 winners in the end but the performance left Ally McCoist green with envy as the former Rangers man learned who the Celtic Park club could face in the playoff place.

Ally McCoist says Celtic ‘done themselves proud’ with ‘great’ Champions League draw

McCoist told TNT Sports, “I’m not sure I’d be standing next to Rod [Stewart]. No, no, I’d maybe be sat next to Harry Kane’s dad.

“In all seriousness. What a draw. Of course, they’ve earned it. Even tonight I feared the worst. After five minutes it was 2-0.

“And remember, Watkins has a great chance to make it three and Johnston’s go back and cleared off the line and does well.

“They’ve done themselves proud and they’ve earned that draw. What a great draw for them.”

What Ally McCoist has previously said about Celtic in the Champions League

McCoist was labelled as ‘salty’ after his Celtic comments before the Aston Villa game where the TNT Sports pundit was reminded that the Hoops have won Europe’s big cup.

After Celtic beat RB Leipzig, McCoist admitted to feeling ‘destroyed’ as the Parkhead club improved their fortunes in Europe and continued to dominate Scottish football.

The former Rangers man even admitted that he ‘didn’t particularly enjoy’ Celtic’s win over RB Leipzig as Brendan Rodgers took the Glasgow giants one step closer to qualification.

It must be hurting McCoist to see Celtic reap the rewards of Champions League glory whilst his old club slum it in Europe’s second-tier competition.
