Ally McCoist says he wouldn’t ‘rule out’ one international boss who is ‘a Celtic man’ to take over the Parkhead hotseat from Brendan Rodgers.
The managerial situation at Celtic is certainly grabbing all the headlines this week as the Parkhead board continue their search for Rodgers’ heir.
Rodgers’ shock Celtic exit sparked off a furious retort from Dermot Desmond which then set the wheels in motion for Martin O’Neill to take temporary charge of the Bhoys.
But as the speculation ramps up this week, Ally McCoist has delivered his take when it was suggested that Steve Clarke could be the man to take over Celtic.

‘Celtic man’ Steve Clarke could take on the job but only on one condition
McCoist and Alan Brazil were discussing the Celtic manager situation when Brazil name-dropped Scotland boss Clarke’s into the mix.
McCoist said on talkSPORT, “I don’t know, is the answer to that question. I hadn’t given Clarke a thought to be honest with you.
“He clearly, did a brilliant job down at Kilmarnock, great experience down south. He’s done fantastically well with Scotland. Why not?
“I mean, I think, I don’t know. I think he certainly leans towards Celtic, he’s a Celtic man. So, yeah, I wouldn’t rule it out.
“Do you think that that would be a possibility, Al?”
Brazil: “I don’t think he’s one to jump ship. I think he’ll wait to see what happens to Scotland.”
McCoist: “Oh, absolutely. I think he’s one of these lads, certainly with Scotland, he has a real positive opportunity to get to the first World Cup since France ’98.
“I think that would be his priority, clearly.”
Steve Clarke’s managerial record as Celtic’s hunt continues
Clarke has been the man in charge at West Brom, Reading, Kilmarnock and now, at Scotland.
He has also been an assistant to Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and the second-in-command at Liverpool, West Ham, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and part of Mourinho’s Porto coaching staff for the 2003 UEFA Cup final.
But how has Clarke fared as a stand-alone boss? Here, 67 Hail Hail takes a look:
| Steve Clarke | Played | Won | Drew | Lost | Goals For:Against | Win % |
| Reading | 53 | 19 | 14 | 20 | 61:62 | 35.84 |
| West Brom | 60 | 19 | 14 | 27 | 83:90 | 31.66 |
| Kilmarnock | 79 | 40 | 20 | 19 | 115:83 | 50.63 |
| Scotland | 72 | 34 | 14 | 21 | 112:100 | 47.22 |
Clarke’s win ratio is not the best but he did finish second above Rangers in his time at Kilmarnock and with a better core of players available to him at Celtic, could he prove he can play attacking football at Parkhead?
