American pundits’ interesting take on Cameron Carter-Vickers at Celtic, including an incorrect claim

Cameron Carter-Vickers continues to fly in the colours of Celtic.

The only downside to his Celtic career is his constant injuries, including being sidelined recently, and how it does not allow him to really showcase his true worth.

But how Carter-Vickers is viewed by Celtic fans isn’t being translated to the international stage with the United States.

Despite Carter-Vickers being a regular at Celtic, he can’t seem to find those consistent minutes with the USMNT, as Mauricio Pochettino is now in charge.

And with league seasons across Europe being concluded, including Celtic celebrating the 2024/25 Premiership title, a number of American pundits on CBS shared their views on Celtic’s hard-hitting centre-back, as they named him in their Team of the Season.

Cameron Carter-Vickers named in CBS’ Team of the Season

CBS were naming their Team of the Season for Americans overseas, which includes Carter-Vickers, but his teammate, Auston Trusty, missed out.

Former USMNT international Benny Feilhaber stated he wanted to, not just pick the ‘best players’, but also those who have won trophies, before stating that Carter-Vickers is playing in a league that has ‘one and a half teams’.

His co-pundit, Nico Cantor, then claimed that the former Tottenham player didn’t replicate his domestic form in the Champions League, and also highlighted issues he had in certain games, including Celtic’s defeat at Aston Villa.

But, of course, that’s an incorrect claim because Carter-Vickers was injured and was absent for that league phase fixture at Villa Park in January.

“First of all, I want to make sure that we understand that we prefaced it with how we created this,” said Feilhaber.

“I wanted to make sure that we went with the best players. The best seasons and winning trophies are a big part of it, so we went with a three at the back.

“Then Cameron Carter-Vickers, and I will say, I am not much for the Scottish Premier League. There is really one-and-a-half teams in that league, but he has won the trophies. Done what he can, and I think he has played really well in some big moments as well in European football, so we will give him the nod on the right side (of a back three).

“I thought CCV had a pretty solid season. Although I am arguing with myself here. A lot of the games that he plays are against lesser opponents and teams in that Scottish Premier League.”

Cantor then added: “Cameron Carter-Vickers was touted as the best centre-back in Scotland. Then, in the Champions League, he had a couple of particular moments that kind of made you go ‘oh no’.

“Against Bayern, then, who was it against? Aston Villa in the league phase, but I do buy it. CCV. Who else goes there?”

Carter-Vickers’ stats for Celtic this season

You wonder if Brendan Rodgers will bring in another centre-back in the summer because Carter-Vickers needs help.

The 27-year-old is the only consistent one at the back, and the team’s defensive displays in 2025 have been a little iffy and further proof that something needs to change.

Either way, WhoScored rated Carter-Vickers’ Premiership displays at 7.28, and just under seven for the Champions League matches.
