Three centre-backs Celtic should target in summer transfer window to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers

Celtic have had another strong season and will want to build on another successful campaign.

A Treble seems to be on the cards after winning the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Premiership, and having the opportunity to win the Scottish Cup against Aberdeen.

Brendan Rodgers will still want to improve and it’s expected to be a summer of change, as Premier League clubs sniff around Daizen Maeda and interest in other first-team stars grows.

A striker is top of Rodgers’ wish list, but a centre-back should be high on the order of priority.

Despite impressing Celtic fans, Maik Nawrocki looks likely to be off this summer, whilst Liam Scales and Auston Trusty have both shown their flaws.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is the only nailed-on starter and could do with a partner who is equally as strong in order to progress to the next level.

So, with that, here are three centre-back options that 67 Hail Hail think the Hoops should be looking at.

Dara O’Shea – Ipswich Town

Dara O’Shea has been linked with Celtic several times and should be back on their radar once again.

O’Shea has suffered back-to-back Premier League relegations, first with Burnley and now Ipswich Town, so may not fancy second tier football in England.

A Republic of Ireland international, O’Shea is also capable of filling in at right back if needed and Rodgers is a huge fan of the defender.

After years of links, maybe it’s time to finally make the move to Parkhead?

Ben Cabango – Swansea City

At 24, Ben Cabango has done brilliantly to rise through the ranks at Swansea City and is currently their captain.

Cabango signed a new deal with Swansea in December 2024 but, as we all know, contracts don’t mean much nowadays.

Football Transfers name the Wales international as someone who is in a similar sort of mould to Carter-Vickers and as a slightly younger option on the list, could learn under the American. His leadership role at Swansea also bodes well for him handling the pressure of a step up to Celtic.

Wouter Goes – AZ Alkmaar

The most ambitious of the three, but Wouter Goes, 20, is destined for big things. Thriving with AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie, Goes is someone Celtic would need to snap up sooner rather than later.

He could well be wanted by several clubs and the centre-back could even command a record fee – 12 months after the Bhoys paid £11m for Arne Engels.

Goes has already made over 100 senior appearances for Alkmaar at such a young age and would be such a big upgrade on the current options next to Carter-Vickers.
