That was a drama-filled transfer deadline day for Celtic.
After all the negative noise in recent weeks, the Celtic board didn’t deliver, and the main topic of discussion was the striker department.
If you thought Adam Idah leaving would put a temporary end to a Celtic forward player having a connection with the Republic of Ireland squad, then think again.
Amid all the noise around transfer deadline day, it was a day to remember for Celtic’s Johnny Kenny, and now he has a big few months ahead.

Celtic striker Johnny Kenny earns Republic of Ireland call-up
Usually, supporters don’t like international breaks disrupting the season, but Ireland’s upcoming games will be worth watching – they face Hungary and Armenia in World Cup qualifiers.
That’s because Ireland has called up Kenny for the first time in his career, and he replaces the injured Troy Parrott.
Hopefully, this will be the first of many caps for Kenny, who, after a successful loan spell at Shamrock Rovers last season, is now starting to climb that ladder.
Kenny’s career in numbers
Of course, the Celtic Park faithful are furious over the transfer business, especially what has been conducted up top.
But the players can’t do anything about that, and Celtic’s lack of options up top could be a benefit to Kenny as he tries to progress his career.
So far, it has been a positive journey, but now with the Ireland call, it’s about to go to the next level, and the Celtic supporters should be excited.
- Shamrock Rovers: 26 goals in 76 matches
- Sligo Rovers: 12 goals in 34 matches
- Celtic: two goals in 13 matches
- Celtic’s B team: three goals in six matches
