The tantalising prospect of Andy Robertson finally returning to Celtic continues to be a talking point, with the Scotland captain confirming he will resolve his club future before this summer’s World Cup.
Scotland will host Japan on Saturday evening, and then the Ivory Coast, in two friendly matches before domestic football returns for its final stretch, and then the 2026 World Cup will take centre stage.
Entering the final months of Robertson’s glittering Liverpool career, he represents the ultimate one that got away for the Hoops. After being released from the Celtic academy as a youngster.
Robertson is now staring down a blockbuster free transfer, and he is eager to get his next move boxed off quickly, as he addressed the issue ahead of Scotland’s encounter against Japan.
“We know the end of the season is coming, and we will need to make a decision soon,” stated Robertson. “That decision will come, and everyone will find out where, when or what I am doing. That will be the plan.”

Poll: Should Celtic sign Andy Robertson?
Andy Robertson discusses his future amid Celtic links
While the romance of a Celtic homecoming is undeniable, the defensive picture in Glasgow presents a fascinating dilemma.
Kieran Tierney has been in exceptionally strong form recently, reminding the Celtic Park faithful exactly why he is so revered in the east end of Glasgow.
Add in the lingering question over Marcelo Saracchi – who has enjoyed a positive loan spell – and the left side of the defence is suddenly a major talking point.
A lot will depend on Celtic’s new manager and their preferred tactical setup. Will the club look to retain Saracchi permanently, or go all-in on Robertson?
Could Celtic genuinely do the business to have two massive names like Robertson and Tierney in the squad at left-back?
Could one of them even drop into a left-sided centre-back role to accommodate both stars in the same starting lineup?
Either way, it’s an interesting one to watch out for, as Robertson discussed his future, as posted by Go Radio.
“My thoughts will stay private, they always have,” said Robertson. “I have been quite consistent with the Liverpool press down there that anything that happens will happen in-house.
“Once there is an announcement to make, I will make it to them. I don’t think it will be fair to them for me to come away from Scotland duty and talk about Liverpool.
“Just like if there ever was an announcement around Scotland, I would never do it down in Liverpool. I would do it up here.
“There have been a lot of discussions had, and things like that internally. I have always got to work out what my family want – everything like that. That’s always been consistent. We know the end of the season is coming, and we will need to make a decision soon. That decision will come, and everyone will find out where, when or what I am doing. That will be the plan.”

Robertson’s leadership could aid a broken Celtic dressing room
At the age of 32, Robertson still has plenty left in the tank, and he could still provide an enormous amount of quality to Celtic.
The issue is that if he doesn’t sign for Celtic now, then that might be his last chance to live his boyhood dream.
If Robertson signs for another club, then by the time that contract runs down, he might be around 35 or older, and at that point, you have to question where his career will be.
Yes, trying to put Robertson and Tierney into one team could be complicated, but it’s complicated for the right reasons, and also think about how the Liverpool man’s leadership will lift a broken Celtic dressing room.
Callum McGregor needs help, and someone like Robertson, who understands Glasgow and the pressures that go with it, is another reason to push for his signature.
