Ange Postecoglou delivers injury update on Celtic winger James Forrest
Celtic winger James Forrest won’t be fit enough to face St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership tomorrow, manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed.
Forrest has been missing since picking up a knock in the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Dundee United. He’s been absent from matches against Ross County and Rangers.
There was hope he might be back in training by this point, but Postecoglou has confirmed that is not the case and offered an update on his situation.
He told a press conference today [Celtic Youtube]: “James is probably another week, we’re hoping. He’s gotten closer but he’s really the only one not available for tomorrow.”
Postecoglou has consistently used Forrest when he’s been fit this season. The veteran winger has made 28 appearances in all competitions.
He may not be having quite as prolific a season as we’ve come to expect or hope for, but the attacker still has the ability to punish Scottish Premiership opposition.
His performance against Livingston just prior to his injury was excellent and he scored a big goal that day to help us on our way to a 3-1 victory.
The good news is that the rest of the squad is in excellent health, giving the manager plenty of options in the wide areas. Given Liel Abada isn’t being given a starting berth right now, the competition is fierce.
It’s going to be a strong line-up and bench tomorrow, especially with Kyogo confirmed to be back in the mix.
