Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has spoken out for the first time since Josip Juranovic’s move to Union Berlin was officially confirmed late last week.

The 27-year-old joined the Hoops during Postecoglou’s first transfer window, signing from Polish side Legia Warsaw, for a deal in the region of £2.5 million.

He quickly became a key contributor for the club in both full back roles, and helped the Bhoys to Scottish Premiership and Premier Sports cup success.

After a strong 18 months, which included performances in the UEFA Champions League and at the World Cup, transfer interest in Juranovic began to rise.

Clubs from across Europe have been linked with moves in recent months, particularly after his showings with Croatia out in Qatar.

However, it was ultimately Union Berlin who came out on top in negotiations, and the defender secured his move to the Bundesliga late last week.

The Celtic boss confirmed that Juranovic would be headed for Germany in his post-match press conference, following the Greenock Morton game on Saturday, giving him a glowing tribute.

And speaking for the first time since his move was officially announced on Sunday, Postecoglou has followed that up with more classy praise for the right-back.

He said [Celtic TV]: “He was certainly a popular member of the group and he will be missed.

“But as I said on the weekend, with all of us, what the ultimate measure is our contribution while we’re here, irrespective of the time span.

“He came to us in a very important year for this football club, I thought and he was a massive contributor on and off the park, to our success.

“He continued that this year, and moves on now to another opportunity for himself and his family.

“But look, he was a real popular member of the group and he’ll be missed. But, ultimately, the measure is his contribution and that was significant.”

Josip Juranovic will be missed in Celtic dressing room, but Ange Postecoglou has delivered perfect response with replacement.

As Ange points out, there is no doubt Josip Juranovic will be missed in the Celtic Park dressing room. It was clear to see he was a popular fixture amongst his teammates.

However, the former Socceroos boss has produced the perfect response, even before his departure was confirmed, with the signing of Alistair Johnston

After bringing the Canadian to the club in November, Johnston is now settled into life as a Celtic player and his performances in the media showcase the sort of character he is.

So the Hoops were able to secure a replacement, before the Croatian international was out the door and heading for the Bundesliga.

There is no doubt that Juranovic was a quality players for us, and he proved to be a good servant, helping us win back the Scottish Premiership title.

Thankfullly, we have signed a player who has made a positive start to life in the defence, and still has plenty of improving to do as a 24-year-old.

Ange’s last two responses to the news of Juranovic’s departure exhit the sort of character he was, and we wish him all the best on his move to Germany!
