Ange Postecoglou isn’t going out of his way to seek the approval of former Celtic managers but does take their praise as a sign his team is doing well.
Neil Lennon was full of positivity about the Bhoys after last week’s derby win over Rangers, describing the first-half display as “amazing” on talkSPORT.
Brendan Rodgers has also been supportive to the Celtic boss.
Ange Postecoglou happy to please Neil Lennon and company
Postecoglou is pleased to have them on board, telling The Scottish Daily Mail [12/02 print edition, page 118]: “‘It’s not something I think about a lot in terms of the whole approval thing, but they are two people who were very, very successful at this football club.
“Neil Lennon is a Celtic man. He was here as a player and manager. Part of my role is to represent everyone at this football club, including past players and managers.
“Hopefully I produce a team they are proud of because they will always be associated with this club and I know that they want this club to do well.
“If I’m pleasing them, then I’m happy because it means I’m taking the club in the right direction.”
Postecoglou is the type of character that probably blocks out a lot of what is being said about Celtic.
His old friend and managerial rival Ernie Merrick did tell 67 Hail Hail recently Postecoglou was initially surprised about the number of old players who comment on Celtic in the media, but he’ll be used to it by now.
And he is right of course. If Lennon and Rodgers are happy about the direction of Celtic then it’s simply a summary of how the Celtic support feel about him in general. That’s what he cares about.
