Ange Postecoglou says Celtic still have transfer business to do

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is determined to land more signings this summer transfer window.

The Bhoys have already brought in Joe Hart, James McCarthy, Liel Abada, Kyogo Furuhashi and Carl Starfelt for the first team. Liam Shaw, Osaze Urhoghide and Bosun Lawal have also arrived this summer.

However, Celtic still need a right-back, some depth across the pitch and, likely, a new star striker.

Ahead of the Hoops’ encounter with FK Jablonec in the Champions League, Postecoglou was asked about his transfer hopes before the summer window shuts on the 31st of August [BBC].

The Celtic boss said [Sky Sports]:

“I think I’ve said pretty consistently, there’s a number of players we need to bring in, in different areas. We’re still light on in certain areas of the park, we still need some strengthening.

“Both in depth, as well as quality.

“The club is still working really hard. It is a difficult market and a difficult time to do deals.

“Whilst it feels like an eternity, the club is working hard to try to get things over the line. It certainly doesn’t stop with [McCarthy and Hart], we still have got some business to do.”

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou surely has transfer targets in mind

It’s pretty clear what Celtic need, at this point. Extra cover in central defence, perhaps a new left-back, certainly a new left-winger, two right-backs, another striker… the list goes on and on.

Postecoglou probably needs to add to his backroom staff, too, while he’s at it.

The likes of Kristijan Lovric, Ko Itakura and more have been heavily linked to the Bhoys. So the potential for exciting, international names to arrive at Paradise is very much there.

However, Ange is right; he’s been consistent. Furthermore, he’d have known acutely before getting to grips with the squad that he’d need to be active in the transfer window. His match experiences thus far will have only galvanised that knowledge.

The Celtic squad he’s been left with is still full of winners from campaigns past. Still, it’s missing key cogs in Ange’s tactical engine. The additions of Hart and McCarthy could prove to be master-strokes, but there are still key questions in terms of both incomings and outgoings before September starts.
