‘As good as I’ve seen’: Callum McGregor says current Celtic ace one of the best he’s played with

Callum McGregor says Kyogo Furuhashi is one of the best he has played with at Celtic after he scored yet again for the club.

On Sunday, Celtic thrashed Hearts 4-1 at Tynecastle, in front of a small pocket of away fans after the club were handed a small allocation – Kris Boyd’s comments after the game were music to Celtic fans’ ears.

Nonetheless, Kyogo Furuhashi well and truly killed off the game in the second half in what was his fifth goal of the campaign, with Callum McGregor calling him ‘incredible’, as he told Sky Sports Football (22/10/23 at 4:20 pm). 

Overall, that’s 60 goals in 95 games in Celtic colours for the quick-thinking and moving forward, who will, no doubt, hit his century and beyond by the time he finishes.

The Parkhead faithful have always been blessed with some of the great goalscorers, with the King, Henrik Larsson, perhaps the best of them all.

There was a recent comparison between Kyogo Furuhashi and Henrik Larsson, with Neil Lennon issuing an 11-word response if the Japan star is the best since the former Barcelona man.

Nonetheless, this is what Callum McGregor had to say when talking about Kyogo Furuhashi recently.

“He’s incredible,” said McGregor. “I speak about it all the time and how important it is for the team. He scores in big moments. His finishing. His one-touch finishing is probably as good as I have seen and played with.

“He deserves all the goals that he gets. Again, coming here (Tynecastle), he gets us a goal and just after half-time as well. Another really important player for us. We just need to keep him fit and healthy that’s just the main thing.”

Kyogo Furuhashi has another level to hit

When it comes to the domestic scene, the performances, and the big-game goals against Rangers, are there for all to see.

In order for the club to progress in the Champions League, then those performances need to translate itself into Europe, with Kyogo scoring against Lazio last time out.

The Atletico Madrid game coming up is the test of all tests now because, if Celtic want any form of Europe beyond Christmas, then a win needs to be put on the board.
