Celtic defender Auston Trusty had a lot to smile about over the weekend.
The American international wasn’t just happy to see Celtic progress in the Scottish Cup, but what would have pleased him the most was the Philadelphia Eagles winning the Super Bowl.
Trusty was born in Pennsylvania, not far from Philadelphia, as he now reps the colours of his home town from afar in Scotland.
Interestingly enough, Philly don the same green colours as Celtic, so from his perspective, there are some similarities there.
Given the time difference, Super Bowl LIX, for those in the United Kingdom, took place late on Sunday evening and past midnight.
It meant that the diehard fans, and Trusty is one of them, had to stay up late to watch Philadelphia dismantle the previously all-conquering Kansas City Chiefs.
But ahead of Celtic’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, Trusty was asked to compare the supporters of Philly to those of his current club.

Auston Trusty says Celtic and Philadelphia Eagles fans are ‘wild’ after Super Bowl win
Even though Trusty was rested for Celtic’s win over Raith Rovers, he admitted that he still found it difficult to stay up all night to watch his home town win the Super Bowl.
Nonetheless, he was delighted to wake up and hear that they had won, and especially the manner in which they had gone about it.
Trusty explained how Celtic and Philly fans are ‘wild’ and he stated that Glasgow is ‘home’ because it reminds him of Philadelphia, as he told Celtic TV.
“The Eagles winning that’s amazing,” said Trusty. “I tried staying up, but it’s so late and I was falling asleep. When I woke up and turned my phone on, it was blowing up, so to see that they had won and the fashion that they won was amazing.
“The celebrations I saw on Instagram, I saw everybody going absolutely crazy and they went crazy the time before. They were greasing the polls to make sure people weren’t trying to climb them.
“I think the Celtic fans are wild and very loyal. I think the Philly fans can be really similar to that as well. There’s good and bad, but at the end of the day, we are all in it together and everyone has each other’s backs.
“I think playing in both green colours, works as well, so Glasgow reminds me of Philadelphia a lot, so it does feel like home.”
Trusty on growing up in America and knowing about Celtic fans
Scottish football might not have the money that other leagues have, but not many can match the bite and power of Celtic.
The Hoops are one of the world’s most famous clubs and they are now preparing for a huge showdown against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night in the Champions League.
Ahead of that first-leg play-off clash, Trusty shared how he knew about the Celtic faithful growing up in the States and what he expects from the Bayern game.
“I assume the Bayern game is going to be even crazier than it has been,” said Trusty. “Honestly, it’s just a dream come true.
“Growing up in the States. You hear the stories about Celtic Park, but you don’t really understand until you are here, so when I am out on the pitch and you just hear the theme song playing and everyone is just screaming.
“It’s just amazing. It gets you right up for the game and you just want to give your all for everybody. The fans do play a huge part. It’s nice that they are behind us.”
