Celtic romped to a 5-0 win over Raith Rovers yesterday evening with Daizen Maeda the star.

The Japanese hitman struck a hat-trick as the Scottish Championship club fell to defeat thanks to a masterclass in front of goal from the 27-year-old.

Maeda added to his double vs Dundee in midweek to continue his terrific run this season in front of goal.

Luke McCowan and Yang were the other goal scorers but it was all about Maeda who helped build momentum for his side ahead of their Champions League tie vs Bayern Munich.

Maeda hit a hat-trick vs Raith Rovers for Celtic

It is a brutal disappointment that Maeda is suspended for the first-leg against Bayern especially with the current run he is on.

He started through the middle for Celts who allowed Adam Idah to sit this game out to ensure he was ready for Wednesday evening in Glasgow.

No striker arrived on deadline day which irked fans who branded Celtic’s transfer business in January “shocking”.

But with Idah also hitting the goals trail, Maeda stepped up as the lone striker and fans were quick to hail their key man for his performance in the Scottish Cup.

Hoops fans on X, formerly Twitter, made their feelings known with some calling for a new deal for their talisman.

What Celtic fans said about Daizen Maeda at full-time

One X user wrote: “Henrik Maeda at it again.”

Another added: “Through to the next round of the cup and Maeda gets himself a hattrick overall, a great day in the office.”

Somebody else tweeted: “By far our best player and he only cost about £1.5m. He just gets better and better. A truly remarkable player who consistently gives his all and he’s quickly becoming an iconic player for Celtic. New contract for Duracell Daizen?”

While a fourth said: “Is it time to recycle the Scotty Sinclair song for Daizen Maeda?!?!”

A fifth fan posted: “10 year contract!”

“Daizen stepping up! Another great performance,” another noted.

Someone else said: “Just give him the player of the year now…….. and a huge new contract.”
