It won’t be too long until the Celtic fans will be packing out Parkhead for the visit of St Mirren on August 3.

You just wonder what the mood of the Celtic fans is going to be because, as of this moment, there is an air of frustration and anger around the place.

It’s not helped by the fact that Celtic were beaten 5-1 by Ajax in the Como Cup on Thursday evening, but only last week, the Hoops were thrashing Newcastle United.

It’s up to everyone to react how they want, but Brendan Rodgers isn’t mincing his words because he doesn’t sound like a happy man.

What has Brendan Rodgers said?

It was important not to get too high, following that win over Newcastle, and it’s important not to get too low now that Ajax have given Celtic a taste of their own medicine.

But a lot of the talk has been around the 2025 summer transfer window, and how the club haven’t added enough proven quality players.

One of the words Rodgers used, post-match, as posted by the Daily Record, is the word ‘ambition’ when it comes to bringing in players.

“It depends on what your ambition is,” said Rodgers after the Ajax loss. “If your ambition is to really progress and push forward, then we need to improve the squad.”

Celtic fans react to Rodgers’ comments

How do the Celtic Park faithful feel? To nobody’s surprise, they echo Rodgers’ words and think the board needs to take action.

Celtic have Champions League qualifiers coming up at the end of August, just before deadline day, so are the powers that be waiting for that? If so, it’s a risky game.

@CannoliC67 is worried about Rodgers’ future: ‘He’s off, can’t blame him. The board clearly taking everyone for granted yet again.’

@PatrickMurphy89 had a warning to the Celtic board, as to what possibly awaits them: ‘The second leg of the CL playoff, August 26/27, followed by the match at Ibrox on the 31st, will be massive for the board. Strengthen properly and you’ll likely win both. But lose both with over £80m in the bank? That’d be catastrophic.’

@FplRegret expressed his frustration: ‘Tiresome that with every manager we get to the point in a transfer window and they are just short of begging the board to get serious and back the club. Our European ambition is a marketing tagline with no intent behind it.’

@JRMartin1988 is also concerned: ‘The “if” is very telling in this quote. Bit of a concern.’

@RabCorbett2 feels Celtic’s biggest threat is themselves: ‘Celtic’s biggest threat to our continued success, …is Celtic. That in itself is quite damning, even if we sign 2 quality first-team starters in the next couple of weeks. Part of me feels that even that will be insufficient. Attack, midfield, Defence, & GK..There are issues throughout.’

@Mo_041 names how many first-team signings are needed: ‘Need a minimum of 4 first team ready players, and that’s without anyone leaving.’

@Titan_Tim87 thinks nothing has changed since the Gordon Strachan days: ‘Gordon Strachan was saying the same almost 20 years ago. It’s been like this and will always be like this. Frustrating.’

@heisenberg_47 backed Rodgers: ‘A very pointed statement. And he’s not wrong, we need to improve.’

@Seanybhoy67 joked about Postecoglou returning: ‘Welcome back, Ange 2026.’

@Markyjig stated what is ‘baffling’: ‘Pretty obvious that the manager has ambition and the board doesn’t. Baffling.’

Another Celtic fan who is preparing to leave, as @AJN1967 added: ‘He’s preparing for leaving next year and making it clear this time that his ambitions for Celtic don’t match the club’s.’
