Celtic’s recent performances have been fairly impressive. The Hearts game aside, Brendan Rodgers seemed to be getting a tune out of his players in an attacking sense.
Seven goals against Dundee was a follow-up to hitting three past a dogged Motherwell defence the previous week so it seemed like the Celtic team has turned a corner with their attacking intent.
And that continued against Livingston in the Scottish Cup last weekend. Celtic racked up 31 shots on goal as they dominated the play with 77% of the possession. [BBC]
Had it not been for poor finishing, the scoreline would have been far greater than the four it finished up with against David Martindale’s side.
Helping those stats was the appearance of James Forrest in the second half. The winger looked direct and dangerous when he came on and Barry Ferguson believes that Celtic should now be thinking about playing him more.
Ferguson said [The Go Radio Football Show], “You can’t buy experience but also what comes with that experience is quality.
“That’s what he does bring, James Forrest.
“He’s been there. He’s done it. He’s been there for a number of years.
“He knows how to handle situations and just been watching Celtic over the last couple of months, I’ve been surprised he’s not had more gametime if I’m honest.”
Well, if I am honest, who do we drop to do so? I spoke earlier today about Rory Loy and his comments and after Nicolas Kuhn’s performance against Livingston, it would be very hard to tell him he’s dropped to the bench now.
Daizen Maeda’s hat trick on Sunday means that he is a stick-on to start against St Johnstone so unless we suffer another injury setback, Forrest will resume his place on the bench this Saturday as per usual.
