RB Leipzig weren’t expecting what they experienced at Celtic Park in the Champions League defeat to Brendan Rodgers’s team.

Veteran midfielder, Kevin Kampl even admitted the Leipzig players could handle the Celtic Park atmosphere as the fans cranked up the heat from the very first whistle.

The Bundesliga team’s sporting director also admitted that they deserved to lose to Celtic as the Scottish champions made Leipzig restless in the crucial Champions League tie.

But it seems that there was a moment well before the full-time whistle blew that Pat Nevin spotted the German side’s players chucked it during the game Celtic leathered Leipzig at Parkhead.

Leipzig’s Openda ‘couldn’t get off quick enough’ during Celtic Park defeat

Celtic’s play was unbelievable and it seems one of Leipzig’s players wanted to get off the park well before the final whistle, according to Nevin.

Nevin told The Scottish Football Podcast, “See the opponents, right? I said before that Celtic looked like a team with passion, right?

“And they by the end, looked like a bunch of mercenaries. I was really amazed by Openda, he couldn’t get off quick enough. It’s one of those where he wasn’t running off to help his team. He just didn’t fancy it anymore. I’ve had enough. This isn’t for me.

“And then the end of the game, they’ve got a player, now, he might have been injured, and he was injured, but if it was cramp and he’s refused to stay on when there’s 10-15, minutes to go, I couldn’t imagine a Celtic player walking off there.

“So you need the passion as well, and the passion has to go through the entire squad.”

Celtic just two games from Champions League play-off places

Now, it has been reported that Celtic would need about nine points to make the Champions League play-off places.

And that may well be true, but if Brendan Rodgers really wants to lock in that place then there are two games that he can do it.

Beating Club Brugges at the end of November will take Celtic a big step towards that. That will take the pressure off of getting something away at Dinamo Zagreb in December.

And then if the Hoops beat Young Boys at Celtic Park in late December then Brendan Rodgers, the team and the supporters can continue their party in the Champions League.
