Tom English has shared what he’s ‘constantly told’ by people at Celtic about major shareholder Dermot Desmond.

Celtic fans have long suspected that Desmond has far too much say on the goings on at the club despite the Irish billionaire not being the official owner.

Desmond’s influence at Celtic is so great that fans have also been told that ‘no one can go up against him’ as a Parkhead stand-off continues between the fans and the board.

And speaking about the ‘big decisions’ made at Celtic, BBC reporter Tom English shares what he is ‘constantly told’ about Desmond by people within the club.

‘People’ at Celtic say Dermot Desmond makes the ‘big decisions’

Celtic’s summer transfer window enraged the fans and it was found to be the tipping point where the Hoops support have had enough of the direction the club is heading under the current stewardship.

And to reiterate that point, Michael Stewart shared what every manager since Ronny Deila to Brendan Rodgers has said about Celtic’s sluggishness in getting players in quick enough during past transfer windows

Responding to that, English told BBC Radio Scotland, “I agree with all of that, but there is another name here, and it’s the guy who ultimately makes the big decisions and you will know who I am talking about. Dermot Desmond.”

Kenny McIntyre replied, “For example, with regards to the recruitment. So say there is a 10 million pounds fee, Brendan Rodgers got a player, are you saying that final decision goes to Dermot Desmond, on a big signing?”

English: “I couldn’t say for sure, but I’m constantly told by people within that club that the big decisions are made by Dermot Desmond.

“Now, what constitutes the big decisions, that’s open to debate, but he is the dominant force at that club.

“And an awful lot of good has happened. But Jim [Celtic fan], I completely agree with you, with all this Champions League missed opportunities, and this feeling of drift in the wrong direction, totally agree.

“I don’t think Celtic fans are asking for the sun, the moon and the stars. You’re asking for progress. Just progress.”

Who really signs Celtic’ players?

With all the injury issues Celtic are suffering right now, the recruitment policy at the club has come back sharply into focus.

Whilst the official line from the club is that Rodgers is the man who signs all of Celtic’s players, the Hoops boss’ ‘club signings’ line has cast a serious shadow over that.

With the Celtic boss refusing to play new signings like Shin Yamada, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and Hayato Inamura, the Parkhead support are raising serious questions about if Rodgers had any say in those particular players.

With the quality on the Celtic bench nowhere near matching what the starting lineup provides, after English’s comments, fans will be looking sharply towards the hierarchy at the club and wondering just who is signing some of these players at Celtic.
