Celtic ended this season’s Champions League campaign with a defeat to Aston Villa.

The Bhoys battled bravely at Villa Park but finally succumbed to a Premier League-level attack that was simply too quick and sharp for a Celtic first-team that gave it their all for the whole 90 minutes.

Adam Idah drew Celtic level with a 145-second double that brought Brendan Rodgers’ side back from the brink after Morgan Rodgers put Aston Villa 2-0 up in the first five minutes of the game.

But it wasn’t quite enough as Villa turned up the style in the second half and ran out comfortable 4-2 winners in a game that Brendan Rodgers admits left him feeling proud of his Celtic team.

After the match, BBC Sportsound presenter Kenny McIntyre spotted a touch of class from Celtic goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel that will leave fans proud of the big Dane.

Kasper Schmeichel’s ‘high-fives’ to Celtic fans after Aston Villa defeat

McIntyre told BBC Sportsound, “What an incredible match we have just brought you in the Champions League.

“John McGinn there going round the pitch applauding the fans. Kasper Schmeichel had gone off. Brendan Rodgers is also applauding the support.

“Schmeichel’s gone over and he is just high-fiving some of the Celtic supporters that have made the journey down there.”
