Ben Summers has spoken for the first time after sealing his season-long loan move to Scottish Championship side, Dunfermline Athletic.

The move ends a year-long chase by Pars boss, James McPake, and it is just what the young midfielder needs in order to aid the next stage of his development.

The youngster joined the newly promoted side last week but in his first interview with his new club since making the move, he couldn’t hide his delight and excitement for the season ahead.

Summers said [Dunfermline FC], “I’m really happy to be here, it’s a massive club with a great fan base. They play great football. At this stage of my development, there’s nothing more I can ask for.”

Summers looking forward to joining up with ex-Celtic teammate

Indeed, as well as looking forward to getting some more gametime to further his development, Summers is looking forward to teaming up again with Ewan Otoo.

Young Otoo sealed his permanent move to The Pars after he had a successful stint at the club where he helped them win League One.

Summers continued, “I got told about the move a week last Sunday. I know Ewan Otoo and after I spoke to him, my mind was made up.

“We had a good connection when we played at Celtic. He’s a great guy, a great footballer as well. I’m sure we’ll get along well.”

First-team football is the immediate target

Summers seems intent on making an immediate impact at his new club. Not content with just getting a move, the young Celtic midfielder could be set to make his home debut against Raith Rovers in ten days’ time.

And the youngster can’t wait to taste regular senior football, “I’ve been at Celtic since I was eight – all the way from under-8s to the first team.

“At this stage, the most important thing for me is to get out and play. Play a lot of games in front of fans, playing for something – playing for three points.”

Summers certainly is a talented young footballer and it will be exciting to see how he fares at Dunfermline. We wish him luck for the season ahead and look forward to seeing him back in the green and white hoops next year.
