Brendan Rodgers outlines his January transfer ambitions for Celtic.

The Celtic manager has made no secret of the fact that he expects to do business after Celtic’s links with Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney emerged.

Celtic have already allowed Stephen Welsh to leave the club on loan as he looks to get some first-team football away from Celtic Park, but as yet, the Bhoys are still to add to their squad.

However, that could be all about to change as Brendan Rodgers delivered a timeline on when he expects the club to do some transfer business in his post-match press conference after Celtic beat Ross County.

Rodgers told BBC Sport Scotland, “Hopefully, over the course of the month. We want to strengthen the squad. We want to improve the squad.

“But on young Johnny, it’s a great day for him to make his debut for Celtic. It will be an amazing feeling for him.

“He came in a few years ago, had to go away get some experience on loan. He’s done very well at Shamrock and when we needed something different in the game, he was able to come in and give us that.

“So pleased for him. And over the coming weeks, I’m sure we’ll look to improve the squad.”

Three positions Celtic must look to strengthen in January

Celtic are cash-rich and will have no issue in funding any new deals that Rodgers needs to do to strengthen the squad this month.

With injury issues and squad depth in certain positions looking sparse, there are three positions Rodgers must prioritise to add strength to his squad.

The Hoops boss must look at adding a right and left winger to his ranks as injuries to James Forrest, Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda have shown that after those three players, Celtic do not have the necessary quality in reserve in the wide areas.

Rodgers should also look to add a striker to the team. Granted, Johnny Kenny has returned to the club and played well in the Ross County win, but there is no telling if he has the necessary quality to be a prolific Celtic striker.

With Adam Idah clearly lacking in confidence, Kyogo is Celtic’s main goal threat and with key Champions League matches coming up, adding another frontman could spark Idah into life and help push Kyogo for the only striker’s starting spot.
