Brendan Rodgers leaps to the defence of the Celtic board amid ongoing frustrations

Celtic started the season with a win, but it’s not a happy place right now.

A number of signings have come through the Parkhead gates, but there is still work that needs to be done.

Brendan Rodgers wants more additions, but has found it difficult to land those coveted transfers, with Go Ahead Eagles even mocking Celtic over their business, or lack of it.

Most of the frustrations are being directed towards the Celtic board, but Rodgers refused to entertain the idea of pointing the blame at them.

Brendan Rodgers backs the board to ‘get the work done’

The Celtic manager has been through it all many times before and during the press conference ahead of Sunday’s game against Aberdeen, backed the hierarchy to give him the tools he needs when the transfer window closes.

He said: “I think the board have shown over many years and numbers of years that the work will get done. And, obviously, as a group that runs the club and has run it so well for so many years, they’ll look to get what they will feel is the best value for the players.

“Of course, as coaches and managers and supporters, you want the best players. But ultimately, the club will be run in a way that makes sure that both the best players and the best value are there to be made. So, that sits above me. That’s something that clearly does.”

The Celtic board must help Brendan Rodgers

Everyone knows that Celtic’s squad is the best in Scotland but it is alarmingly clear that new faces are needed.

There are only four wingers on the books at Lennoxtown, and with Marco Tilio expected to join Rapid Vienna, that leaves three.

Jota won’t be back until 2026 so can’t be considered and ahead of a busy schedule, including the Champions League play-off ties, keeping the squad fit is vital.

Rodgers has done a great job so far, but can only do so much. It’s now time for the board to repay their faith in the manager.
