Brendan Rodgers reveals if Kieran Tierney and international stars will be involved in Celtic’s next pre-season friendly

Celtic kicked off their pre-season with a 1-0 win against Queen’s Park.

Johnny Kenny’s first half goal was the difference between the two sides as the Hoops dominated the proceedings.

Brendan Rodgers was able to get a glimpse of the future too after naming 15 youngsters in the Celtic squad.

Several of those youngsters impressed for the Bhoys and now the Hoops turn their attention to the second pre-season game against Cork City.

All of the international players will be returning this weekend, including Kieran Tierney and Rodgers has confirmed if he and the fellow stars will feature.

Kieran Tierney won’t play against Cork City

Tierney’s return has got everyone excited but as he prepares to pull on the green and white for the second time, he will need to get back up to speed first.

Despite reporting for pre-season this weekend, he and the returning Celts won’t play in the game in Ireland.

The Celtic manager told the club’s social media channels: “The guys that have just come back probably won’t be involved in the Tuesday game.

“It’s just too soon coming back but they’ll be involved next Saturday when we play in Portugal.”

Celtic’s history is steeped in Irish tradition and they will be backed by a huge support on the Emerald Isle when they play against Cork midweek.

For Rodgers, an Irishman, it will be exciting to return to his roots and give the fans from Ireland a chance to see their beloved club.

“It’s always a privilege to take Celtic anywhere and lead the team and club but to go to Ireland with Celtic is always really special,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to seeing our friends over there and having a really good game.”
