Brendan Rodgers told he has a ‘real talent’ from Celtic B who is out on loan

The number of players who progress from the Celtic Academy to the first-team needs to seriously improve.

Shaun Maloney is tasked with that job and, so far, supporters have seen more Celtic youngsters leave the club on loan this season than make the breakthrough into Brendan Rodgers’ first team.

Young Colby Donovan has made his senior Celtic debut this season and fans have also seen glimpses of Dane Murray too.

However, it’s a player who is out on loan at this moment in time that Scott Allan says is a ‘real talent’ after admitting he watched the Celtic youngster a ‘few times’.

Sean McArdle has been in and around the periphery of the Celtic first-team since last season but has only made two senior appearances under Rodgers.

But Allan is convinced that Celtic have a quality young player after what he’s seen from McArdle so far.

Allan told The Scottish Football Podcast, “So I don’t think they’ll be far away, but I do like the look of Partick Thistle as well.

“I think they’ve recruited well. Sean McArdle obviously going from Celtic, who I’ve seen a few times, I think he’s a real talent.

“I think Mark Wilson’s building something really good there at Partick Thistle.”

Since joining Mark Wilson’s Partick Thistle this season, McArdle has made just one appearance for the Firhill Club.

A 19-minute substitute outing in a 1-1 draw against Arbroath this month is all that he has under his belt at the moment but it’s clear McArdle does have talent.

In 57 appearances for Celtic B, McArdle has scored seven and created two and also has seven appearances in the UEFA Youth League.

Starring in wins against the youth of RB Leipzig, Club Brugge and Slovan Bratislava, the young Celtic midfielder’s progression into senior football will hopefully help develop McArdle’s game and give him vital experience this season under Wilson in the Championship.
