It’s been another brilliant season for Callum McGregor as captain of Celtic.

McGregor has hit double figures for the first time in five seasons and also looks set to captain the Bhoys in another Treble-winning campaign.

The midfielder hasn’t been the only cog in the team, with all of Brendan Rodgers’ players playing their part in the cause.

Others have maybe been in the limelight more and for McGregor, there is one standout name.

Callum McGregor thinks Greg Taylor is one of the best players in Europe

With his future up in the air, Greg Taylor is showing no signs of the rumour mill affecting his performances.

Taylor stood out in the thumping Kilmarnock win and also again in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

It comes at a time when the 27-year-old looks likely to leave Celtic Park amid links of moves away.

Kieran Tierney’s pending return also plays a role in this but right now, McGregor thinks he is among the elite in Europe.

He told the BBC: “I know how important he is, I know what he brings to the team.

“There’s very, very few players in Europe that I’ve seen that play that position better than him and it gives the team a different dynamic as well.

“To have that in your squad, that level of player, who gives everything for the club every single day, who carries the responsibility as well, I’d love nothing more than the club to do something and try and get him tied down.

“He’s been a huge part of the success, especially since we’ve started playing with that kind of inverted full-back.

“I don’t think there’s anyone in Europe that’s doing it better at the minute.”

Callum McGregor wants Greg Taylor to say

Some Celtic fans are changing their tune on Taylor after performances in recent weeks.

How Taylor and Tierney fit into the same Celtic side is another question for another day, but for Celtic’s captain, it’s important that the Bhoys tie the full-back down to a new contract.

The former Scotland international added: “He’s a top player and I would love to see something done to try and keep him at the club.”

As it stands, the left-back’s final game for the club would be the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen.
