Calvin Stengs breaks silence on Celtic transfer rumours after rubbishing injury claim

A winger is high on Brendan Rodgers’ shopping list for Celtic this summer.

It’s the one position in the side that you could say lacks any sort of depth and the Hoops are working hard to change that.

Michel-Ange Balikwisha is set to join Celtic this week while there have also been links to Go Ahead Eagles star Jakob Breum.

Calvin Stengs is another rumour doing the rounds, with reports stating that Feyenoord would do a cut-price deal for Stengs.

The winger is yet to play for the Dutch giants this season after spending a chunk of last year out through injury, but he doesn’t want that to change anyone’s views.

Calvin Stengs ready to ‘prove’ himself to potential suitors

According to various reports, Feyenoord would be looking for a fee in the region of £5m, which is what they paid to sign the winger from Nice.

After several spells on the sidelines last season, the 26-year-old insists it was nothing more than a blip and that he is ready to contribute – whether that be at Celtic or Feyenoord.

“Last season I was injured a bit more, but people forget that I played football for seven years straight,” he told  RTV Rijnmond.

“Last season was actually the only time I was sidelined three times. That’s often blown out of proportion.

“It’s frustrating for me that it’s happening, but I just want to look forward and prove myself.”

Calvin Stengs encouraged to leave Feyenoord

Stengs could’ve been in different surroundings this time one year ago had it not been for failing a medical with FC Charlotte in the MLS.

For now, he is still playing in the Netherlands but has been told that a sale may benefit all parties.

Robin van Persie said that “Stengs does everything with a thought in mind” and that his “class is evident” but is in favour of other options.

The 26-year-old will know that more game time awaits him at Celtic Park and that a move to Paradise would make total sense.
