In the latest edition of Clyde 1 SuperScoreBoard, Ross McCormack was alongside Gordon Dalziel taking questions from callers.
One Bhoys fan who called in expressed his frustration at the Celtic board for not splashing the cash, singling out Adam Idah, Liam Scales, Auston Trusty and Hyunyun Yang as players he wouldn’t consider to be good enough.
However, McCormack tried to reason with the claim and suggested that the lack of spending could be down to other factors.
He said: “There’s four players that you’ve just mentioned there that aren’t good enough to play for Celtic, two of them, last summer, £15m was spent on them.
“Can you not understand the board not giving the manager money after wasting £15m last Summer?
“These are costly players, costly players. £15m for two players in Scotland. I understand the market down south has gone mad but that’s a lot of money for Scotland.”
Celtic set for rollercoaster end to the transfer window
One thing you can always be assured of with Celtic is that it is never dull in the closing stages of the transfer window.
The past few years have seen the Hoops working right up until the deadline in order to bring new faces.
Last season saw Luke McCowan and Arne Engels arrive late on, while in the past Cameron Carter-Vickers – the best defender at the club since Virgil van Dijk – also joined on deadline day.
Jakob Breum and Michel-Ange Balikwisha are two of the players that could be heading to Parkhead before the 1 September deadline.
