As the dust settles on Celtic winning a record-breaking treble, the fans can reflect back on the achievements of their team with a sense of immense pride. Five domestic trebles in seven incredible years is an astounding feat but this latest one is that little bit more special.
And Celtic defender, Carl Starfelt has shared what the manager said to the players after the final whistle as the Swede was quizzed about the manager’s future.
Starfelt said [The Herald], “He is a really good manager and is really important for Celtic.
“Whatever happens, I have no idea. We will just wait and see. I guess he is really proud of this season.
“He said how proud he is of everyone: the staff, the players. That was the main message. If anyone knows how hard we’ve been working. It’s not only the games, it’s coming into training every day with a big focus and desire.
“Everyone sees the games but that’s what is needed if you want to win things. He is really proud that we have won.
”No [it did not sound like farewell], absolutely not. But we will wait to see.”
Ange Postecoglou had taken over a club that was in disarray. A rebuild was required, we had lost our captain and our CEO and the Australian was taking over in the middle of a global pandemic.
And now, after two years, the Celtic manager joins Jock Stein, Martin O’Neill, Neil Lennon and Brendan Rodgers in the history books as the fifth manager in our history to have won a treble.
Quite an incredible achievement considering Postecoglou was virtually written off from the get-go. The Australian lost three out of his first six games in his maiden season and many were predicting he would be ‘gone by Christmas’.
And now, after two incredible seasons, Postecoglou has reached legendary status in the eyes of the fans. As speculation intensifies around the Celtic manager’s future, the fans will eagerly await any news from the club and whether or not Ange will be staying to take on the Champions League next or heading down south.
But, for now, all we can do is enjoy the weekend. We can enjoy celebrating another treble success whilst our rivals look on envious once more. And whilst Ange Postecoglou is proud of his players and staff, the fans could not be prouder of the Celtic manager after what he has achieved over the last two seasons.
