Celtic book Hampden date with St Mirren, semi-final details confirmed after Ibrox drama

Lost in all the madness of the Ibrox drama, Celtic actually booked a semi-final place in the Scottish Cup as the Parkhead club drew St Mirren in the next round.

Celtic beat Rangers in a dramatic 4-2 penalty shoot-out which saw neither team fail to score in 120 minutes of open play.

But what seems to have been forgotten within all the Ibrox madness is who Celtic will face in the penultimate round of the cup competition as St Mirren await the current Scottish champions.

How can we ensure that the Glasgow derby can continue having full allocations after the latest incident?

Celtic face St Mirren as Scottish Cup dates are locked in

Celtic will get the chance to exact Hampden revenge on St Mirren after the League Cup final defeat back in December.

In a statement on Celtic’s official website, the club confirmed, “Following their 4-2 penalty shoot-out win over Rangers in today’s Scottish Cup quarter-final tie at Ibrox, Celtic will now face St Mirren in the semi-final at Hampden, with Falkirk and Dunfermline meeting in the other tie.

“The games will go ahead at the National Stadium on the weekend of Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19.

“Further date/kick-off confirmation and ticket news will follow in due course.”

With the chance of a possible double on the line, having Martin O’Neill in the dugout for the Hampden date will fill Celtic fans with confidence that another historic season could be on the cards.

Motherwell are up next for the Hoops, followed by a double trip to Dundee and Dundee United. Then a St Mirren double-header will play out as Celtic face the Buddies in the league and the cup in successive weeks.

It’s going to be an exciting and possibly season-defining few weeks for Celtic supporters.
