James Forrest’s testimonial brings pre-season to an end for Celtic. Now the fans can look forward to Saturday afternoon when the Hoops legend will have the honour of unfurling the league flag.
It’s a great Flag Day gesture by the club and one which signals how important the Celtic winger is to the club. But the unfurling of the flag will represent another meaning according to Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers.
Rodgers is looking forward to his first fixture in the Scottish Premiership since returning to the club this summer and says the unfurling of the flag will close the door on last season.
Rodgers said [Celtic TV], “I think Saturday brings an end to the celebration of winning the Treble and obviously, of course, winning the league which is the bread and butter.
“As soon as that flag is up there we’re now looking to not just defend it, but we want to win it again.
“And that all starts from Saturday.”
Rodgers sounded bullish and confident about the season ahead as he prepares to kick off against Ross County at the weekend.
A new chapter awaits the Celtic fans
Whilst the football we watched and the trophies we amassed under Ange Postecoglou was amazing, it’s time now to look forward to the new season.
With so many reasons to be positive, the Celtic supporters showed last night that they are looking forward to what is ahead for us under Rodgers after he was given a warm welcome back to Paradise.
Rodgers has already strengthened the squad with five players this summer and the early signs on all of them (barring the injured Marco Tilio) look good.
Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Anthony Ralston all returned to the first team with only Alistair Johnston’s injury stopping us from starting the new season at full strength.
The Celtic manager has already stated that he intends to add more new faces before the window closes and, by all accounts, he seems determined to make it happen.
But Rodgers is correct. Once that flag is unfurled on Saturday, all the hard work starts again and that is something that all the Celtic supporters will be looking forward to.
