Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has given supporters a concerning update on attacking-midfielder Tom Rogic, telling supporters that he likely won’t train this week.

Rogic took a sore one against Ross County when Kayne Ramsey recklessly collided with him at Parkhead on Saturday. Tom had to come off minutes later whilst the County man was sent off.

Afterwards, Rogic had to drop out of the Australian national team squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Japan and Saudi Arabia respectively. Therefore, many were left hoping that he was simply looking to use the time to rest and get prepared for Ibrox.

However, speaking via Celtic TV today, Postecoglou has stated that he’ll be out for the “medium-term” as he failed to paint a pretty picture.

“We’ll see how it all transpires. Unfortunately he couldn’t go back and represent his country which was disappointing for him. He’s still sore. He probably won’t train this week and we’ll just assess how he goes in the week leading up to the next game.

“But suffice to say he was pretty sore after it. He probably could’ve been a helluva lot worse, but at the same time it’s enough to keep him out for the medium-term.”

Tom Rogic now officially an injury doubt as he looks to recover before Rangers

So now it looks as though Rogic is now officially a Celtic injury doubt for the game at Ibrox next Sunday. Given he won’t train this week, that’s a big blow for supporters who would’ve hoped this was just precautionary.

It didn’t sound great that he had to drop out of the Australia squad. Especially when you take into consideration the fact they face a do-or-die clash with Japan in the World Cup qualifiers. And now, Ange has effectively confirmed why many were concerned.

It looks as though this injury is worse than first thought. At least worse than what Ange believed to be the case immediately after the game. It would’ve certainly been ideal for Tom to get a good week of training under his belt before the build-up to the Rangers game.

As of yet, Ange certainly isn’t ruling him out of Ibrox it seems. Hopefully, he can get back and in doing regular training again next week when the international players return from action.

Tom would likely be one of the first names on the teamsheet in Govan. And whilst Ange does have options, Rogic is a player who’s been over the course before. The atmosphere and the importance of the game won’t affect him negatively whatsoever.

We’ll keep our eyes on this one as the days trickle down until the derby. Fingers crossed Tom is back in time.
