Celtic’s defeat to Dundee has elicited a defiant response from Callum McGregor as he sends a message to the fans.
The backlash to the defeat is not so much the loss itself, but the manner of how the Celtic team meekly gave up three points at Dens Park.
With barely a shot on target in the first half, Celtic looked like a side that didn’t know what to do with the ball despite having it for over 80% of the 45 minutes.
And when Dundee opened the scoring, the reaction from Brendan Rodgers’ side was simply unacceptable to the Celtic support.
However, with fans still smarting from the loss, Celtic captain Callum McGregor has sent the Parkhead support a message as two of the biggest games of the season creep up this week.
Callum McGregor’s strong message to his Celtic teammates after loss at Dundee
The Celtic captain cut a forlorn figure when the final whistle blew at Dens Park and with Sturm Graz and Hearts up next, McGregor has sent his teammates a strong message for the week ahead.
McGregor told the Daily Record, “It was a poor afternoon, really poor result. It can’t happen for a club like Celtic.
“It doesn’t happen too often to be honest, but when you have a performance and a result like that, then I think it emphasises everything that’s happened between now and the start of the season.
“But listen, there’s only one way out of it and it’s hard work and it’s digging in and fighting together, which I know that we will do, and the good thing is that there’s still so much football to be played.
“We’re at eight games today, so we’ve still got 30 games to go. You normally get one [setback] round about this time of the year, but it just lets the players know that you can’t have another one of them.”

McGregor then addresses the fan anger witnessed at Dens Park at full time as the legendary midfielder tells them he understands how they are feeling.
McGregor continued, “I get it that the supporters are frustrated and they’re angry and again a lot of that comes down to the fact that the performances aren’t there really and if we can affect the performances then hopefully the noise will get less.
“So I understand they’re frustrated, nobody will be as frustrated as me, that’s for sure.
“But when the game starts then we try and do everything we can to make it about the football and let’s see if we can start to get that and get the rhythm in the game and ultimately start winning games.”
With just over 48 hours until Sturm Graz come visiting, Celtic supporters will be hoping to see a much-improved performance from their heroes.
Because if there isn’t, then there is a very real chance the Hoops support could witness back-to-back Celtic Park Europa League defeats for the first time ever.
