Celtic fans seem to be in agreement about when Kasper Schmeichel’s problems in goal first started.

Schmeichel looks finished at the top level after a catalogue of errors, which included an awful display in the loss against Stuttgart.

There have been calls for Viljami Sinisalo to replace him in the starting XI and fans on TalkingPoints have been picking out the moment where they feel it began to go downhill.

Celtic fans say Scottish Cup final was where Schmeichel problems began

67 Hail Hail asked our fans on TalkingPoints where they thought it had gone wrong for Schmeichel and they largely believe it was last season’s Scottish Cup final.

After a spell out with injury, the 39-year-old was named to start against Aberdeen but made the mistake that led to the Dons’ equaliser before they eventually won on penalties, which seems to have scarred him ever since.

One fan wrote: “We will win nothing if O’Neill isn’t strong enough to drop him, regardless of a World Cup looming (which doesn’t benefit Celtic). I don’t think the manager will drop him and if that’s the case then the sooner we get a new manager the better!”

A second commented: “It’s been going wrong for Schmeichel since last season ( cup final being one shocker). Sinisalo should have been given more game time after that.”

Another added: “I think we forget how good he was at the start of his time at Celtic but since the cup final. it’s been really poor. He is someone that cares and it will be hurting him, but he’s not at the level required now.”

This supporter stated: “He should have been shown the door after he sold the jerseys in the cup final last season!”
