Celtic wrapped up their first two pre-season games before heading to the USA with a 6-4 win over Queen’s Park last night at The City Stadium.
With Brendan Rodgers using the games against Ayr United and The Spiders to prepare for the US Summer Tour, the Celtic manager has been given a lot of food for thought on who out of all the young players he should take with him on the plane.
The Hoops boss admits that Celtic were ‘nowhere near’ the level he wants them to be at the moment and the upcoming games against Man City, Chelsea and FC Dallas will test his team’s mettle.
And whilst Rodgers will have a rough idea of who is going on the tour, one player that seems a certainty is Bosun Lawal if the reaction to his performance in last night’s win over Queen’s Park is anything to go by.
Celtic fans cautiously hail ‘unbelievable’ Lawal
The Republic of Ireland U21 international has returned to Celtic off the back of an impressive loan spell at Fleetwood Town.
And after making it clear he wants to be part of the first team plans for next season, he has done his argument no harm according to these Celtic fans:
Another fan said, “Bosun Lawal looking really good in these 40 minutes. He’s got a really nice first touch. Using his physical presence well. Looks to play the ball on as soon as he receives it.”
One Celtic fan urged caution despite Lawal’s ‘clear’ talent:
One for this season if he’s nurtured correctly said this Celtic fan, “If he’s coached right, he could be a starter for us. Looks like a great player and the loan has done him really well.“
Whilst another Hoops fan believes that the last two friendlies are possibly not the best games to judge the Celtic youngster:
I’ll leave the last comment to this Celtic fan and how the young defender/midfielder could turn out for Celtic:
It is obvious that the 21-year-old has a bright future in the game and looking at his composure and versatility last night, Lawal does offer Brendan Rodgers an interesting option off the bench.
It was his versatility and goalscoring that impressed the Fleetwood Town supporters last season despite them suffering relegation.
If given an opportunity, Lawal could play a part for Celtic next season as long as he continues to develop and learn at the rate has has over the last 12 months.
