Celtic fans make their feelings clear after Steven Gerrard rejects Rangers return

Celtic fans heard a lot of noise from their Rangers counterparts in the summer.

But fast forward to the present, and normal service has resumed, because Rangers are the laughing stock of Glasgow once again.

Rangers being in a relegation fight after seven matches is bad enough, but after sacking Russell Martin, the Ibrox club have been turned down by Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard was a failure in Scotland, having won only one trophy out of 12. Still, by Rangers’ standards, that’s incredible, so you can understand their supporters getting pretty giddy once they heard their legendary coach was in talks about a return.

But now, they have been brought swiftly back down to planet earth, and the Celtic Park faithful are loving every minute of it.

Celtic fans react to Steven Gerrard rejecting Rangers return

Rangers should be highly respected because somebody has to provide the comedy in Scotland, and they always step up and produce.

It seemed for all intents and purposes that Gerrard was going to replace Martin, but clearly, the former midfielder didn’t want to come up against the smoke that Brendan Rodgers was going to provide.

Celtic fans have made sure to rub salt into the Rangers wounds because they are the gift that keeps on giving.

@__BM88_ with a brilliant response: ‘We can all laugh now, wait until Gerrard takes over.’

@TheParkheadF with a talkSPORT reference: ‘Has anyone seen Steven Gerrard?’ If you know, you know.’

@_MH93 is seeing the funny side to this all: ‘They spent the full week convinced it was 100% him for him tae say naw hahahahaha, some laugh.’

@M_DOW___ is already looking forward to Kris Boyd’s reaction: ‘annae wait for Boyd’s interview with the next guy appointed saying he is the man to take them forward as per usual #rinserepeat.’

@Ulysses1954 referenced Rangers’ title win during COVID: ‘Apparently they couldn’t guarantee a global pandemic.’

@Beanbhoy1963 had to give Jermaine Defoe a mention: ‘Could someone check on Jermaine Defoe?’

@jayThomaon described it all as ‘comedy gold’: ‘This is comedy gold, btw. Absolute comedy gold.’

@DeclanStones1 just thinks the Rangers story continues: ‘The Banter Years Continue.’

@liamcsc thinks Gerrard can’t match Celtic or Rodgers: ‘Gerrard has just confirmed a lot of Rangers fans’ worst nightmares. He knows full well what his abilities are as a coach in respect to Brendan Rodgers (who he played for). He knows he can’t bring back a global pandemic & glorified training sessions. He isn’t up to the task.’

@COYBIG_1967 summed up the Rangers nonsense brilliantly: ‘SG gets it, knows what *Rangers r about!!’ Aye, he does, hence why he doesn’t want owt to do with them!!! Come back, Martin…all is forgiven.’

@PaulMcg87179934 with a 49ers jibe: ‘Just wait till the 49ers takeover!!!’

Celtic’s games leading up to the League Cup semi-final

It’s now expected of Celtic to win the Treble, not out of sheer arrogance, but because the team has been so dominant for so long.

The same applies again this term, as it will be interesting to see who is beside Rodgers in the Hampden dugout for the League Cup semi-final next month.

But before Celtic can think of that fixture, there are some seriously big Premiership and European matches to deal with post the October international break.
